What is Defoamer?

Defoamers are chemical additives that reduce or prevent the formation of foam in industrial process liquids. Foam is a coarse dispersion of a gas in a liquid, where the volume fraction of gas is greater than that of the liquid. The bubbles will migrate the surface because their density is less than that of liquid. As the bubble coalesces and collects at the air/ liquid interface, the bubble wall becomes thin and breaks.

A defoamer must have the properties of partial solubility, low surface tension and spread rapidly in the gas- liquid interface with maximum interaction with the air bubbles.

Defoamer for Paints and Coatings

It is an essential additive in Paint and coating manufacturing to eliminate major problems in the process and in the end product. Loss of Mechanical shearing power while milling, overflow during mixing, volume increase during the letdown and defects such as fisheyes, popping cratering will be eliminated by adding the correct defoamer.
